How to start a Pump
Start up check
list for pump
1. 1. Suction valve is in open condition
2. Discharge valve is in closed condition
3. Recirculation valve is in open condition
4. Lubrication – Oil or grease
5. Sealing system if applicable
6. Suction level of the fluid should be normal
7. Priming system readiness
8. Freeness of the shaft
9. Motor IR and connections with protection system
10. Suction foot valve or strainer condition
11. Direction of rotation of the pump
12. Alignment with motor
13. Check proper fixing of the foundation bolts
14. Piping supports
15. Protection and Interlock system is in line
16. Flushing- Connected pipe line and storage tank are to be thoroughly cleaned and flushed
17. Bearing Cooling system is in line
1.
Start Up Procedure
If above conditions are fulfilled do the following
1. Priming- fill the pump with fluid and release air
2. Start the pump
3. Observe the shut off/discharge pressure, current , bearing vibration, temperature and noise
4. Open the discharge valve and close re-circulation valve gradually
5. Observe the points no3
6. If VFD is installed, increase the speed gradually, do not run pump in minimum speed for longer time.
7. Observe the point no3
8. For bigger pump observe axial shift, balancing leak off pressure, delta- T across the pump
9. If there is any abnormality stop immediately - rectify and restart it
