What is RLA (Residual life Analysis ) of Power Plant Equipment

Expected life of a power plant is 35 to 45 years from the date of operation.  Overhauling and different grade of inspections are scheduled in the interval of one year, two years and four years. But after one lakh running hours (12 Years) it is mandatory to do life assessment inspection (RLA) of the power plant equipment such as Boiler, Turbine, Generator, and Transformer etc. Similarly after one lakh sixty thousand (20years) hours of running RLA (residual life analysis) study is to be carried out to ensure the healthiness of the equipment which is continuously under hi stress and strain.

The causes for aged deterioration and damage of the equipment are follows:

1.     Creep     2.     Low cycle fatigue  3.     Embrittlement 4.     Corrosion 5.     Wear

6.     Erosion
